ISLAMABAD: The National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued a public advisory on the prevention and treatment of heatstroke and sunstroke as the country faces increasing temperatures and the growing impact of climate change.
In this regard, Pakistan is experiencing severe weather changes and frequent heatwave conditions due to global warming.
The institute noted that the intensity and effects of heatwaves have been increasing across the country with each passing year, posing serious health risks to the population.
The advisory warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to a rise in heat-related illnesses and fatalities.
The Ministry of National Health Services has also issued guidelines to help citizens protect themselves from the harmful effects of extreme heat.
The advisory recommends avoiding direct exposure to sunlight, particularly during peak daytime hours when temperatures are at their highest.
The NIH further recommended that people wear hats or use umbrellas when going outdoors and choose loose-fitting, light-colored clothing to minimize heat absorption.
The NIH reasserted that public awareness and timely preventive action are key to reducing the health impact of heatwaves.
The advisory comes as Pakistan continues to face rising temperatures, highlighting the need for collective efforts to address the challenges posed by climate change and extreme weather events.
