ISLAMABAD: United States Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Bannu, extending condolences to the Government of Pakistan, the people of the country, and the police force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Baker said the United States stands in solidarity with Pakistan during this difficult time and reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.
“Our sympathies are with the government, the people of Pakistan, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police,” Baker stated. “The people of Pakistan deserve security, peace, and a future free from terrorism.”
The US diplomat further focused on that the United States remains committed to continued cooperation with Pakistan against the threat of terrorism, describing joint efforts as essential for regional stability and long-term peace.
The statement comes amid increased tensions following the recent attack in Bannu, which prompted Pakistan’s Foreign Office to summon the Afghan Chargé d’Affaires and lodge a strong protest over the incident.
Separately, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad to discuss bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation.
During the meeting, Pakistan’s role in facilitating contacts between the United States and Iran was also highlighted. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar noted that diplomatic efforts and constructive engagement could play a significant role in promoting peace and stability across the region.
The two sides also appreciated American assistance in the safe return of Pakistani and Iranian naval personnel, describing the cooperation as a positive example of coordination between the countries.
Meanwhile, Pakistani security forces reportedly conducted an operation in Bannu in which two terrorists, including a key commander linked to the banned militant group Fitna al-Khawarij, were killed.
