Cricketer Mohammad Nawaz Fails Doping Test

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is under investigation after returning a positive doping test, officials said.

The positive result was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board, according to reports. The development has led to the cancellation of his deal with Surrey County Cricket Club for the T20 Blast.

The PCB said it had been informed of the matter by the International Cricket Council. Proceedings were initiated in line with the relevant regulations.

It was stated that the results of the process would be shared with the ICC in due course.

Sources said the test had been conducted during this year’s men’s T20 World Cup.

The 32-year-old featured in all seven matches for Pakistan in the tournament. Limited returns were recorded, with 15 runs scored and seven wickets taken.

A no-objection certificate had recently been issued for Nawaz to participate in the T20 Blast. His signing had been expected to be announced before the deal was scrapped.

He is currently playing for Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.
