Mobile Call and Data Package Price Hikes in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Mobile network operators in Pakistan, with the approval of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), have increased call and data package rates by 19% to 33% year-on-year.

Monthly packages have increased by up to PKR 500, while 15-day packages saw a rise of up to PKR 300, and weekly hybrid packages became more expensive by up to PKR 130.

Short-term options also increased, with 3-day packages rising by up to PKR 21, 2-day packages by up to PKR 20, and daily hybrid packages by PKR 5.

The PTA has published 15 new hybrid and data-only tariff sheets on its official website, detailing the revised rates, validity periods, and available subscriber benefits.

Context: Mobile Packages in Pakistan (Since 2022)

Since 2022, Pakistan’s telecommunications sector has faced mounting inflationary pressures, currency depreciation, and surging operational costs, particularly the electricity and fuel prices required to run cellular infrastructure.

These macroeconomic challenges have severely impacted profit margins for major operators like Jazz, Zong, Telenor, and Ufone.

To sustain operations and continued network investments, operators have steadily phased out affordable, long-standing prepaid bundles and introduced continuous tariff revisions.

While the PTA regulates these changes to protect consumer interests, the cumulative impact has resulted in a steep rise in the cost of connectivity.

For millions of everyday users, remote workers, and students who rely heavily on mobile internet, these recurring price hikes have significantly increased the cost of digital access.
