Switzerland has emerged as the focal point of international diplomacy as Vice President JD Vance and Iran convene for a new round of high-level negotiations aimed at addressing longstanding geopolitical tensions.
The next phase of Iran–US talks is scheduled to take place today in Switzerland, with discussions expected to continue over the next one to two days.
The visit of US Vice President JD Vance has drawn significant global attention, indicating a notable development in the diplomatic engagement process.
Vice President Vance stated that his visit is intended to support progress on critical issues, including Iran’s nuclear program and broader regional stability, particularly efforts related to a potential ceasefire framework in Lebanon.
The delegation, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former presidential advisor Jared Kushner, are already present in Switzerland, participating in behind-the-scenes consultations.
The representatives from Qatar are also expected to play a facilitating role in the discussions, indicating ongoing multilateral diplomatic efforts to bridge gaps between the two sides.
On the Iranian side, a high-level delegation led by senior parliamentary figure Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in Switzerland for the talks. The delegation’s participation signals Tehran’s continued engagement in dialogue despite regional complexities.
On the other hand, as a mediator, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s senior military leadership, including the Field Marshal, have also arrived in Switzerland to observe and engage with participating delegations.
The discussions in Bürgenstock are expected to include a series of bilateral meetings between participating delegations. These engagements are aimed at strengthening diplomatic coordination and improving the implementation framework of mutual understandings between Iran and the United States.
