MAKKAH: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, held a high-level meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
The meeting took place during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, which began on Thursday.
In this regard, as per the Foreign Office (FO), he visit carries significance beyond the prevailing regional situation and reflects the two countries’ commitment to strengthening their long-standing bilateral relationship.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was underway on Friday afternoon. The premier was warmly received by the Saudi crown prince upon his arrival at Al-Safa Palace in the holy city of Makkah.
The senior Pakistani officials accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
The discussions focused on further consolidating Pakistan-Saudi bilateral relations while exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
The FO stated that the visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, deepen strategic cooperation, reinforce multilateral engagement, and promote closer coordination on matters of shared concern.
It added that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue to enjoy a relationship built on decades of mutual trust, cooperation, and brotherhood.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his one-day visit to the Kingdom. According to Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah before travelling by road to Makkah.
The meetings are being closely watched as regional leaders continue diplomatic engagements amid evolving developments in the Middle East.
