ISLAMABAD : In a major administrative move linked to the proposed second round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, authorities in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have announced sweeping restrictions on transport and public movement, effective from tonight.
According to official sources, all transport hubs in the two cities will be shut down from 11:00 PM tonight. Rent-a-car services and tourism transport operations will also be suspended from the same time. The decision is seen as part of a broader security overhaul ahead of high-stakes diplomatic engagements.
The district administration has formally communicated the decision to transporters across the country and issued clear instructions to halt the issuance of any tickets for Rawalpindi and Islamabad until further notice. Officials confirmed that public transport will not be permitted to enter the two cities via the motorway or GT Road starting tomorrow.
However, in a partial relief for residents, authorities are considering allowing goods transport to continue, ensuring that the supply of essential food items remains unaffected.
Security forces have been placed on high alert, though officials have not disclosed specific threats. The measures are believed to be precautionary, given the sensitivity of the upcoming talks and the potential for large-scale public gatherings or disruptions.
Transporters have been asked to cooperate fully with the directives. Passengers planning to travel to or from the twin cities have been advised to make alternative arrangements.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
