ISLAMABAD: Mediation between Iran and the United States (US) has been described as being led by Pakistan, according to Iran’s foreign ministry.
The role was outlined by foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei in a televised interview.
It was stated that several countries have expressed readiness to assist, but Pakistan has been recognized as the formal mediator in the process.
No formal announcement on the timing or venue of talks has been made. It was indicated that details would be shared if negotiations are scheduled.
Reference was also made to recent diplomatic engagements involving Iran.
A visit to Russia by Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and a meeting with President Vladimir Putin were cited.
Broad cooperation between Iran and Russia was noted under a strategic partnership framework, covering political, security and economic areas.
Ongoing outreach by Iran to multiple countries was also highlighted, with efforts aimed at clarifying its position amid current tensions.
Separately, readiness to resume diplomacy was signaled by Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, contingent on a change in the U.S. approach.
Concerns over instability in the Gulf were attributed by Iranian officials to the United States and Israel.
Calls were also made for an end to actions described by Tehran as interference against Iranian vessels.
Recent remarks by Donald Trump indicated that U.S. objectives in the conflict were close to being achieved, while communication channels with Iran were said to remain open.
