Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s upcoming visit to Tehran will primarily focus on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing matters of mutual interest, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said.
Baghaei said the visit would provide an opportunity for Pakistan and Iran to discuss their bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. He also clarified that there was no specific plan to exchange messages related to mediation during the visit.
The statement comes as Pakistan and Iran continue diplomatic engagement amid heightened tensions in the wider region and ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and stability.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Naqvi’s visit is expected to center on Pakistan-Iran relations and matters of mutual interest.
Pakistan and Iran share a 909-kilometre border and maintain longstanding political, cultural, religious and economic ties. Islamabad has continued to emphasize the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional tensions.
Baghaei’s remarks indicate that bilateral issues will remain a central component of the discussions in Tehran, while also leaving room for consultations on broader regional developments.
The Iranian spokesperson said there was no plan for a specific message concerning mediation to be exchanged during Naqvi’s visit.
The clarification comes against the backdrop of Pakistan’s continuing diplomatic contacts with both Iran and other regional and international actors. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has previously said that Islamabad remains committed to facilitating dialogue and supporting efforts aimed at regional peace and stability.
Pakistan has previously hosted talks involving Iranian representatives and has described its diplomatic engagement as part of broader efforts to encourage peaceful solutions to regional disputes.
Regional Diplomacy Remains in Focus
Naqvi’s Tehran engagement comes amid continuing diplomatic activity surrounding tensions involving Iran, the United States and other regional actors.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said Islamabad wants disputes in the region to be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy rather than coercive measures. Officials have also stressed that peace and stability are important for Pakistan, Iran and the wider region.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also indicated that Pakistan and Iran remain in regular contact at the diplomatic level. The two countries are expected to continue consultations on bilateral relations as well as developments affecting regional stability.
