ISLAMABAD: Claims circulated on several Pakistani television channels that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had expressed a desire to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif while in custody. The reports, citing unnamed sources, suggested that prison authorities and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had been informed of the request and that Bushra Bibi had raised the matter during a previous family visit.
The reports quickly gained traction across television broadcasts and social media platforms, prompting questions about whether such a meeting had been formally requested or arranged.
The Claim
Several private television channels reported, citing anonymous sources, that:
- Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi wished to meet PTI leader Barrister Saif.
- Prison authorities and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had been informed of the request.
- Bushra Bibi had previously expressed a desire to meet Barrister Saif during a family visit last month, although the meeting did not take place.
- Arrangements for a future meeting were under consideration.
The reports were presented as information obtained from informed sources familiar with developments surrounding the incarcerated PTI founder.
The Fact Check
Available evidence does not support the claim.
According to sources familiar with the matter, no meeting between Imran Khan and Barrister Saif has been scheduled, requested, or formally discussed with prison authorities.
More significantly, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan publicly rejected the reports. Responding to the claims, he described the story as fabricated and urged media organizations to verify information before publication.
“I have neither received any such message nor conveyed any message indicating that Khan Sahib or Bushra Bibi wished to meet Barrister Saif,” Barrister Gohar said while rejecting the report broadcast by ARY News.
No documentary evidence, official prison communication, court filing, or statement from Imran Khan’s legal team has been presented to substantiate the claim.
Meanwhile, prison sources confirmed a separate development: Imran Khan recently met his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Jail in a meeting that reportedly lasted around 50 minutes. However, no official account of that meeting has indicated that a request for a meeting with Barrister Saif was made.
Earlier this month, Imran Khan was transported under strict security arrangements to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a scheduled eye examination, where he received the fifth dose of an intravitreal injection as part of an ongoing treatment plan. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar separately had confirmed Khan’s medical visit
The Verdict
The claim that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi requested a meeting with Barrister Saif is false and not supported by available evidence.
The central assertion has been explicitly denied by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who stated that he neither received nor conveyed any such message. No official documentation, statement from prison authorities, or confirmation from Khan’s legal representatives has emerged to substantiate the reports.
Based on the information currently available, the claim appears to be unverified and false.
