KARACHI: HSY loses vision after road accident became one of the most difficult experiences of Hassan Sheheryar Yasin’s life, as the renowned Pakistani fashion designer and actor recently revealed that he was unable to see for almost a year following a childhood accident.
Speaking on a podcast, HSY reflected on his early years, his mother’s sacrifices and the traumatic incident that temporarily left him without sight in both eyes.
HSY loses vision after road accident during Ramadan
According to HSY, the accident happened during Ramadan while he and a friend were returning home after purchasing food for iftar.
He recalled that his friend was driving when the call for prayer began. HSY opened the food bag inside the vehicle, and steam suddenly filled the car, making it difficult for him to see.
As his friend attempted to clear the windows, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed.
HSY said he hit the windshield during the collision and subsequently lost his vision in both eyes.
HSY recalls life after losing his eyesight
Describing the period that followed the accident, HSY said the sudden loss of sight had a profound impact on him emotionally and changed his understanding of the world around him.
With his vision severely affected, he became increasingly dependent on his other senses. He recalled how sounds that he might previously have overlooked became much more noticeable.

HSY also shared an emotional memory of being able to hear his mother crying from several rooms away, highlighting the effect the incident had on his family.
Treatment eventually restored HSY’s eyesight
HSY said his eyesight remained impaired for approximately a year. During that period, he underwent medical treatment and multiple surgeries in an effort to restore his vision.
He eventually regained his eyesight and went on to build a successful career in Pakistan’s fashion and entertainment industries.
His recent account offers a personal insight into a difficult chapter of his childhood and the challenges he and his family faced during his recovery.
