MAKKAH: Houthi attacks pose serious threats to regional peace and stability, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said, calling for an immediate intensification of diplomatic efforts to address the worsening crisis in Yemen.
Addressing an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Asim Iftikhar said the deteriorating situation in Yemen had reached a critical stage and required urgent international attention.
He said the expansion of Houthi attacks around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait was contributing to growing regional tensions. He stressed that immediate measures were necessary to prevent further escalation and promote stability in the region.

Asim Iftikhar strongly condemned Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
He warned that attacks targeting important maritime routes could have far-reaching consequences for international trade, the global economy and energy security.
The Pakistani ambassador said vital maritime routes should not be placed at risk or used as instruments of conflict, as disruption in these waterways could affect the movement of goods and energy supplies worldwide.
Asim Iftikhar also reiterated Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right to defend its territory and protect its national security.
Pakistan Calls for Dialogue and Political Settlement in Yemen
The ambassador said Pakistan would continue supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions in Yemen. He called for meaningful dialogue and sincere efforts toward a political settlement that could address the underlying crisis.
According to Asim Iftikhar, an inclusive political solution remains important for achieving sustainable peace in Yemen and strengthening regional stability.

He emphasized the need for diplomatic engagement and coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation. Pakistan, he said, would continue to support measures designed to promote dialogue, de-escalation and lasting peace.
The remarks came amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over the security of key maritime routes in the Middle East. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is an important international shipping corridor, making developments in and around Yemen a matter of broader regional and global concern.
