GWADAR: Work on the Gwadar Safe City project is progressing rapidly as Pakistan moves forward with plans to transform the port city into a modern, secure and smart urban centre, officials said on Tuesday.
Under the project, installation of towers and poles has continued at major and busy locations across the city. The next phase will include the installation of advanced surveillance cameras.
Project Director Engineer Baba Dadullah said underground cabling work was nearing completion.
He added that construction of the main complex and Command and Control Centre was also underway and would soon become operational.
Officials said the centre would strengthen modern surveillance and security management across the city.
According to the project director, the Gwadar Safe City initiative is a major requirement for improving law and order, public safety, traffic management and investment activity in the region.
The project carries an estimated cost of around Rs7.5 billion.
Authorities plan to install 760 modern cameras at 135 key locations across Gwadar. The system will monitor an area of nearly 145 square kilometres.
The project will connect advanced CCTV and multi-purpose cameras to a central Command and Control Centre for round-the-clock monitoring of city activities.
Officials said the initiative aims to help prevent crime, monitor terrorism-related threats, improve emergency response systems and detect suspicious activities in real time.
The project includes advanced technologies such as high-resolution CCTV cameras, facial recognition systems, number plate recognition systems, thermal and PTZ cameras, fibre optic networks, solar backup and real-time analytics systems.
Authorities said the initiative would provide a safer environment for residents, foreign investors, tourists and people associated with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Officials added that the project would play a key role in transforming Gwadar into a modern, secure and internationally competitive smart port city.
