ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s oil and gas regulator has increased liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices by up to 28% for May, officials said.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority) issued a notification on the revised rates.
The authority raised the LNG price for the Sui Southern system by $3.51 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). The new price reached $16.04 per MMBtu.
For the Sui Northern system, the regulator increased the price by $3.43 per MMBtu. The new rate reached $16.98 per MMBtu.
Officials said both systems saw sharp upward revisions compared to previous month.
Sources said a delay in regulatory approval pushed back the finalization of May prices. The delay caused uncertainty in monthly pricing adjustments.
The government has faced repeated criticism over rising energy costs and inflationary pressure on households and industry.
Energy tariffs in Pakistan have remained volatile in recent months amid global price fluctuations and domestic fiscal pressures.
