Rawalpindi: The funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) for the Pakistan Army personnel who embraced martyrdom in the tragic Mi-17 helicopter crash near Muzaffarabad were offered today at the Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir (NI (M), HJ), Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, alongside the Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Information.
Senior civil and military officials, members of the civil society, and relatives of the fallen soldiers were also present to pay their final respects.
Earlier in the day, a dedicated funeral service was held at Christ Church, Rawalpindi, for two Christian soldiers who lost their lives in the same accident.
Top political and military leadership attended the church service to honor their sacrifice.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked that the martyrs’ unwavering devotion to duty, professionalism, and absolute commitment to safeguarding the motherland will remain an enduring source of inspiration for future generations.
He emphasized that the immense sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces for regional peace, national security, and territorial sovereignty can never be forgotten, reaffirming the state’s unwavering support for the families of the martyrs during this testing time.
The bodies of the martyrs are being sent to their respective native towns, where they will be laid to rest with full military honors.
