KYIV : Russia launched a ferocious wave of drone and missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and other targets, killing at least 30 people and wounding over 90 others, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The barrage damaged roughly 130 buildings across the city, reducing homes, infrastructure, and civilian structures to rubble. Ukrainian officials said rescue operations are racing against time, with emergency crews sifting through debris as the death toll is expected to climb further.
“Every hour brings more bodies,” a first responder on-site told reporters, as smoke billowed over residential neighborhoods.
Russian officials, meanwhile, defended the assault, stating that military installations, energy facilities, and airports were the intended targets. However, the widespread destruction in civilian-populated areas tells a different story, with Kyiv accusing Moscow of deliberate terror tactics.
The attack marks one of the most intense bombardments in recent weeks, shattering any semblance of calm in the war-weary capital. Ukraine’s leadership has appealed for more air defense systems from Western allies, warning that without them, such massacres will become routine.
As night fell over Kyiv, the sound of sirens and digging continued — a grim reminder that for Ukraine, the war has only grown more brutal
