QUETTA : At least five people were killed and several others injured in a series of violent incidents across Balochistan, while police arrested multiple suspects during operations in Quetta and Hub, officials said on Sunday.
In the first incident, two people lost their lives in a firing at a wedding ceremony in the Gulistan area of Killa Abdullah District. Police reported that the shooting occurred late Saturday night, killing Hikmatullah and Ehsanullah. The attack triggered panic among guests and local residents. Bodies were shifted to a hospital and later handed over to families after legal formalities. An investigation is underway.
In another attack, unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle belonging to a construction contractor on Mand Road in Turbat, killing three people and injuring one. Police said the incident took place near Kalatak Cross. Law enforcement personnel cordoned off the area, shifted the victims to a hospital, and handed over the bodies to families after legal procedures. Further investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, unidentified motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade near a bakery in the Killi Brahimzai area of Wadh. The grenade exploded with a loud blast, causing severe damage to the shop. No casualties were reported, but the explosion created fear among residents. Local authorities launched a search operation after securing the area.
Separately, Shalkot Police arrested three suspects after an exchange of fire during a raid in Killi Kamalo on the outskirts of Quetta. The raid was conducted to apprehend members of a motorcycle-snatching gang based on information from previously arrested suspects. The suspects allegedly opened fire on police, prompting retaliation. Three suspects were injured and taken into custody. A police constable, Muhammad Bilal, also sustained injuries. The arrested suspects were shifted to hospital, and investigations continue.
In Hub, police arrested an armed suspect following another exchange of fire during a patrol operation. Acting on instructions from SSP Hub Mirza Bilal Hassan, officers tried to stop two suspicious individuals. The suspects allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee. Police injured and arrested Ahmed Ali, recovering a pistol and ammunition from his possession. His accomplice escaped. The arrested suspect was shifted to hospital, and efforts are underway to capture the fleeing individual.
