RAWALAKOT : Four law enforcement officials were martyred and more than 20 police and security personnel injured when miscreants belonging to the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee opened fire in Rawalakot, authorities said on Monday.
According to a spokesperson for the Inspector General (IG) of Police Azad Kashmir, the attackers targeted the officials in a well-planned assault. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where some remain in critical condition.
IG Azad Jammu and Kashmir strongly condemned the firing, stating that the miscreants of the banned Action Committee deliberately targeted law enforcement personnel.
The attack comes just days after the Azad Kashmir government declared the Jammu Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee a banned organization. Earlier, security forces had arrested 72 members of the group. The banned committee has announced a strike on June 9.
Further investigations are underway, and security has been heightened across the region
