Federal Recruitment Reforms Move Closer to Approval as Ishaq Dar Backs Major Changes

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken another step toward overhauling the federal government recruitment system, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar approving a committee report proposing major changes to the hiring process.

In this regard, Dar chaired the second and final meeting of the committee constituted by the Prime Minister to review federal recruitment rules and policy and strengthen the National Job Portal.

The committee approved its report after reviewing measures aimed at making recruitment faster, more transparent, merit-based and technology-enabled.

Dar expressed satisfaction with the committee’s work and recommended the report to the Prime Minister for approval, subject to incorporating suggestions made during the deliberations. The move marks an important stage in the government’s effort to modernise recruitment across federal ministries, departments and other government institutions.

The proposed reforms are aimed at addressing delays and inefficiencies in the existing recruitment process. Earlier discussions by the committee had focused on digitalising recruitment, improving the processing of vacancies and reducing dependence on manual procedures and interventions.

National Job Portal to Get Greater Focus

In this regard, a key element of the proposed reform package is strengthening the National Job Portal so it can play a more effective role in federal recruitment.

The committee has recommended making the portal stronger and promoting modern technology throughout the hiring process.

For job seekers, a more effective digital recruitment platform could potentially make information about vacancies and applications easier to manage.

However, the committee’s recommendations still require approval before they can be treated as implemented policy.

The government has stressed the need for a transparent and streamlined recruitment framework aligned with its wider digital-governance agenda.

The proposed approach seeks to reduce manual intervention while improving efficiency and speeding up the processing of vacancies.

The committee’s recommendations are therefore significant not simply because they concern recruitment rules, but because they point toward a broader shift in how the federal government intends to manage hiring through technology and merit-based procedures.
