BANNU: A Frontier Corps (FC) personnel martyred in Bannu was killed when unidentified armed militants opened fire on him in the Domel area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said.
According to details, the incident took place near Bakhmali Petrol Pump Market within the limits of Domel Police Station, where armed militants opened fire on the FC personnel.
Police said the FC personnel martyred at the scene. He was identified as Barkhan, a resident of Amal Khel, Domel.
Following the incident, the body of the martyred personnel was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu for a post-mortem examination.
A heavy contingent of police reached the scene after receiving information about the attack and cordoned off the area.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are conducting a search operation to trace the attackers.
Police said all aspects of the incident are being investigated.
Terror Attacks in Pakistan: TTP Remains Major Threat
Terror attacks in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, have increased since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. Pakistani officials have repeatedly linked cross-border attacks to militant groups operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad has also raised the issue at the United Nations and urged Afghan authorities to prevent militants from using their soil against Pakistan.
In a latest report, the UN Monitoring Team’s 38th report stated that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also referred to in Pakistan as Fitna al-Khawarij, intensified its terror attacks against Pakistan using Afghan soil. The report stated that Afghanistan’s Taliban regime gives terror groups space to target Pakistan.
The report further said the Afghanistan-based terror groups targeting Pakistan pose a growing threat to regional security, with the United Nations warning that militant networks have access to operational space, training and advanced weapons.
The report identified several groups, including TTP, al Qaeda, Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) and the former Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), now known as the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP).
