MIRPUR: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has officially announced the results of three key constituencies in Mirpur following the first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured victory in two constituencies, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won one seat.
In this regard, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retired) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal stated that in Constituency LA-1 Mirpur-I, PML-N candidate Azhar Sadiq emerged victorious after securing 15,427 votes. PPP candidate Afsar Shahid finished in second place with 9,832 votes.
In addition, LA-4 Mirpur, PML-N candidate Chaudhry Rukhsar was declared successful after receiving 22,376 votes. PPP candidate Sohaib secured 15,851 votes, placing second in the constituency.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir also announced the official results for LA-3 Mirpur. PPP candidate Chaudhry Yasir Sultan won the seat by obtaining 12,590 votes, while PML-N candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed secured 11,081 votes and finished as the runner-up.
The announcement of the Mirpur constituency results comes as unofficial and provisional results from across Azad Kashmir continue to emerge.
However, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retired) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said the electoral process was conducted in a largely peaceful and orderly environment across Azad Kashmir.
He noted that all major political parties actively participated in the elections, with polling taking place peacefully in every constituency.
The Chief Election Commissioner further stated that voters turned out in significant numbers to exercise their democratic right, reflecting public confidence in the electoral process.
He also appreciated the efforts of the election officials, administrative authorities, and security personnel for ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of polling throughout the first phase of the elections.
