BAHAWALPUR: Violence erupted during an election meeting for the NA-168 by-election in Bahawalpur, leaving seven individuals injured following stone-pelting and a physical clash between rival groups.
According to private television reports, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) central leader Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema was among those struck by stones and sustained minor injuries during the commotion.
The high-stakes by-election in the NA-168 constituency features a fierce electoral contest between Waleedad Cheema, son of Tariq Bashir Cheema, and Munir Channar, son of the late Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Malik Iqbal Channar.
The parliamentary seat became vacant following the passing of Malik Iqbal Channar. Local authorities and law enforcement are currently reviewing the situation, while the immediate trigger behind the sudden outbreak of hostility during the NA-168 campaign remains officially unconfirmed.
