Punjab Police Chief and CCD Head Hold Officer Accountable

LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police, Abdul Karim Khan, and Additional IG/Head of the Crime Control Department (CCD), Sohail Zafar Chattha, have held a firing CCD officer fully responsible for the tragic death of a young girl in Chakwal.

During a joint press conference in Lahore, the top police officials revealed that the First Information Report (FIR) was registered exactly according to the family’s request.

The initial complaint detailed that two robbers were forcing the family to strip off their jewelry when a CCD officer opened fire on the vehicle. During the ensuing crossfire, the robbers took cover behind the car.

The officials noted that the streets in the area were exceptionally narrow, and the CCD personnel committed a critical error by opening fire based purely on guesswork.

The officer failed to assess the direction of the incoming threat, as the shooting was actually originating from the rear side of the street.

The leadership emphasized that the CCD personnel severely misused authority. It is an established policing principle that during an active confrontation, protecting an exposed family takes absolute priority.

Furthermore, the weapon used in the incident was officially issued under that specific officer’s name, ensuring he cannot escape punishment.

The leadership stressed that the facts are being made public to ensure transparency rather than to protect anyone, with both the IG Punjab and the Head of CCD personally overseeing the investigation.

IG Punjab Abdul Karim Khan termed the Chakwal incident deeply tragic, stating that a young girl lost her life and the matter will not be covered up under any pressure.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under the penal code, and a transparent investigation is actively underway
