DEHRADUN: The mystery surrounding the brutal murder of a Border Security Force (BSF) officer has concluded with the revelation that his own wife and father orchestrated and executed the crime.
The victim, Ravi Kumar, was serving as a BSF Deputy Commandant—a rank equivalent to a Major in the army—stationed along the India-Bangladesh border.
The homicide occurred while he was at his family home in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, during an official leave.
Following the murder, the victim’s widow, Rajeshwari, filed a police complaint claiming that masked intruders had broken into their residence and stabbed her husband to death.
Given the history of targeted attacks by insurgent factions against security personnel in the northern states, investigators initially pursued an assassination angle involving regional separatist groups.
However, during the course of the investigation, local police noted highly suspicious behavior from the victim’s immediate family.
Intense interrogation of the household exposed internal complicity. The breakthrough came from the victim’s younger brother, Pankaj, and his sister-in-law, Vidhyata, who detailed a history of violent domestic arguments following Ravi Kumar’s return.
Under police pressure, Vidhyata exposed a deeply hidden family secret, testifying that Rajeshwari and her father-in-law, Joginder Kumar, were engaged in an illicit sexual relationship.
Vidhyata had previously caught the two together and informed her husband, Pankaj.
According to their testimonies, Ravi Kumar grew increasingly suspicious of his wife’s detached behavior during his leave.
The conflict peaked when he awoke in the middle of the night, found his wife missing from their room, and subsequently caught his wife and father in a compromising position.
After being discovered, Ravi Kumar threatened his wife with an immediate divorce and vowed to publicly expose his father to the community.
To eliminate the threat of public exposure and protect their illicit relationship, Rajeshwari and Joginder Kumar formulated a plot to assassinate the officer.
Police have recorded the formal confessions of both primary accused individuals and registered cases charging them with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destroying evidence.
