PESHAWAR: Girls significantly outperformed boys in the Intermediate Part-II annual examinations in Peshawar, with female students from government colleges recording the highest pass rate, official results showed.
A total of 66,735 students appeared in the examinations. Of them, 35,103 passed, while 30,878 failed and 754 remained absent.
The overall pass rate stood at 52.60 percent, meaning slightly more than half of the candidates cleared the examinations.
Government college girls posted the strongest performance. Of 21,496 female candidates, 16,064 passed, 5,328 failed and 104 remained absent.
Their pass rate stood at 74.73 percent, the highest among all categories.
In contrast, boys from government institutions recorded a pass rate of 39.05 percent.
Of the 35,227 registered male candidates in government institutions, 13,756 passed, while 21,135 failed and 336 remained absent.
The results also showed a clear performance gap between female and male students in private institutions.
Among 3,426 female candidates from private institutions, 2,224 passed, 1,129 failed and 73 remained absent, resulting in a 64.92 percent pass rate.
Meanwhile, 6,586 male candidates appeared from private institutions. Of them, 3,059 passed, 3,286 failed and 241 remained absent.
The pass rate among private-sector boys stood at 46.45 percent.
Overall, female students outperformed male students in both government and private institutions.
Education experts said examination results represent more than just numbers. They reflect students’ efforts and circumstances and can influence their future academic direction.
They urged students who failed to identify their weaknesses, improve their preparation and make another attempt with greater focus.
At the same time, they stressed that educational institutions, teachers and parents share responsibility for providing students with quality education, guidance and encouragement.
They said stronger academic support could help improve future results and enable more young people to pursue their educational and professional goals.
