QUETTA : In a major administrative shake-up, the Balochistan government has officially restructured the province’s divisional framework, abolishing the historic Kalat division and creating two new ones—Khuzdar and Lasbela. The notification, issued late Saturday, establishes a total of 11 divisions across the province, with significant district-level changes aimed at improving governance and service delivery.
Under the new order, the Quetta division has been reorganized to comprise three districts. Mastung district has been detached from the now-defunct Kalat division and merged into Quetta. Additionally, the Quetta district itself has been bifurcated into two distinct entities: Quetta East and Quetta West. Quetta East will govern the Sariab, Sadar, and City sub-divisions, while Quetta West will administer Kuchlak, Barori, and Panjpai sub-divisions.
The abolition of Kalat division marks a historic shift, as its territory is now split between the newly formed Khuzdar and Lasbela divisions. The Khuzdar division will include Khuzdar, Kalat, Sorab, and the newly created Wadh district. Meanwhile, the Lasbela division will comprise Lasbela, Hub, and Awaran districts.
In the northern belt, a new division has been established, bringing together Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, and the newly notified district of Barshor. Meanwhile, the government has officially renamed Sibi division as “Sivi,” which will now consist of Sivi, Dera Bugti South, and Kachhi districts.
The full list of 11 divisions now includes: Quetta, Rakhshan, Makran, Naseerabad, Zhob, Loralai, Koh Sulaiman, Pishin, Lasbela, Sivi, and Khuzdar. Officials stated the restructuring is designed to bring administration closer to the public, though no timeline for full operational implementation has been released.
