QUETTA: Balochistan has taken a major step in improving public transportation as Balochistan Launches People’s Train Service, becoming the first province in Pakistan to introduce a passenger train service funded entirely through its own resources. The initiative is aimed at providing an affordable and convenient travel option for residents while improving connectivity between key areas.
The newly introduced People’s Train Service will initially operate between Saryab, Quetta, and Kachlak. The provincial government plans to expand the service to additional areas, including Mastung and Pishin, in future phases.
Balochistan Launches People’s Train Service for Daily Commuters
The provincial government has allocated Rs1.4 billion for the project. The funds will be used for the rehabilitation of railway tracks, upgrading existing stations and constructing new railway stations along the planned routes.
The service is expected to particularly benefit students, government employees and other daily commuters who travel between Quetta and surrounding areas. By providing a reliable and affordable alternative to road transportation, the initiative is also intended to help reduce traffic congestion in Quetta.

Officials hope the new train service will make daily travel easier for thousands of residents and improve access to educational institutions, government offices and commercial areas.
The launch also represents an effort by the provincial government to invest directly in public transport infrastructure. Further expansion to Mastung and Pishin could extend the service’s reach and provide more communities with access to rail-based transportation.
The People’s Train Service is expected to play an important role in strengthening local connectivity while offering residents a cost-effective alternative for everyday travel.
