MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 2 — Polling in the LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I constituency of Pakistan-administered Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) was postponed on Sunday after heavy rainfall and landslides blocked roads, preventing election staff and voting materials from reaching polling stations, election authorities said. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission said multiple roads remained impassable due to landslides, making it impossible for polling personnel to arrive at designated polling stations before voting was scheduled to begin. Despite efforts by the district administration to restore road access, the affected routes could not be fully reopened in time, the commission said. The Election Commission announced that a new polling date for the LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I constituency would be announced at 2:00 p.m. local time on Sunday. The commission apologized to voters for the inconvenience and appealed for their cooperation, citing the adverse weather conditions and resulting logistical challenges. Polling in all other constituencies across Azad Jammu and Kashmir is continuing as scheduled, the Election Commission added.
