SYDNEY: Australia have announced their 16-member squad for the Australia vs South Africa Test series, with Marnus Labuschagne retaining his place despite a prolonged run of poor form.
Labuschagne has faced growing criticism over his recent performances. Since July 2023, he has scored just 24.69 runs per innings across 43 Test innings and has not registered a century.
The batter also struggled in his recent three innings against Bangladesh. He scored one, 31 and four.
The Australia vs South Africa Test series will also feature young all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who has earned a place in the squad.
Michael Neser and Matthew Kuhnemann have returned to the Test squad, while Matt Renshaw has retained his place.
Renshaw could open alongside Travis Head in the Australia vs South Africa Test series.
Australia have opted to back Labuschagne despite his poor run, giving the experienced batter another opportunity to regain his form against South Africa.
