TANK: Two policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were martyred on Monday after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a police armored vehicle in Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The attack took place near Mashajan Bungalow on Waziristan Road in Tank district.
The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred as Fitna al Khawarij, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police identified the dead as Assistant Sub-Inspector Faridullah and Constable Akhtar Zaman.
Two other policemen, Constables Abdul Malik and Qudratullah, were wounded in the blast. They were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace those involved in the attack.
Militant violence has increased in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent years, particularly in districts bordering Afghanistan, with security forces frequently targeted in bombings and armed assaults from cross-border attacks.
