Corruption remains Balochistan’s biggest problem: Mir Behram

ISLAMABAD: Senior Journalist, Mir Behram Baloch has said that corruption is the biggest problem Balochistan is facing from a long time and a hurdle to hinder the development process.

Speaking on the matter, Mir Behram Baloch said that the menace of corruption is not only persisting but increasing with each passing day, adding that this ongoing corruption has created deep disappointment among the young Baloch, who no longer trust institutions or the bureaucracy.

He claimed that the continued misgovernance and lack of accountability are developing a strong sense of deprivation among the province’s youth. He attributed much of the corruption to the entrenched political class and tribal chiefs, accusing them of working solely for their own interests.

Baloch said that the same faces return to parliament after every election. Their children study abroad while the people of Balochistan continue to struggle for basic education, adding that yes, some development is visible in the province, but it pales in comparison to the personal gains made by politicians.

Baloch further said that we need to close loop holes in the system that are allowing corruption in the province for the better and sustainable future of citizens.

While answering to a question, he stressed that we need to reform the system on urgent basis, we must close the loopholes that are allowing corruption to flourish, adding that only then can we secure a better and sustainable future for the citizens of Balochistan.

Baloch’s remarks have resonated with many in the province, particularly among civil society groups and youth activists who have long voiced concerns over systemic injustice and the lack of transparent governance.
