Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended, Asif warns India

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Sunday that Pakistan showed maximum restraint after the Pahalgam incident.

He said India made baseless allegations and chose aggression. Pakistan, however, offered full cooperation and called for an impartial investigation.

“India chose confrontation over dialogue,” he said.

He added that Pakistan responded with restraint and careful decisions. It avoided any impulsive moves.

“This approach shows Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability,” he said.

He rejected India’s attempt to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. “The treaty has no clause that allows suspension,” he said. “There is no question of it.”

He praised the armed forces, especially the Pakistan Air Force. “Their performance was unmatched,” he said. “Even international media acknowledged their professionalism.”

He said future talks with India must include the Indus Waters Treaty, terrorism, and the Kashmir dispute.

He noted that the regional strategic situation is changing both militarily and diplomatically.

He expressed hope that this shift would benefit Pakistan.
