ISLAMABAD: United States President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following a series of deadly military exchanges.
This announcement comes after an intense diplomatic effort led by the United States to defuse hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Furthermore, tensions between the two nations surged after a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which resulted in 26 fatalities.
In this sense, India accused Pakistan-based elements of orchestrating the attack, though no evidence was made public. Pakistan strongly denied the accusations.

In retaliation, India closed the Wagah border, cancelled Pakistani visas, and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty. Islamabad labelled these actions as an “act of war” and sealed its own side of the border.
However, as per the military sources from Pakistan, five Indian fighter jets, including four Rafale aircraft, were shot down. So far, Spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan could inflict further damage but chose restraint. A French intelligence source reportedly confirmed to CNN the first-ever combat loss of a Rafale fighter jet.
