KURRAM: Pakistani security forces have thwarted an infiltration attempt by Afghan Taliban personnel in the Kurram sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, responding to what security sources described as unprovoked firing on Pakistani border positions.
According to security sources, Afghan Taliban personnel attempted to target Pakistani border posts with heavy weapons, mortars and other arms. In response, Pakistani security forces launched an immediate and effective retaliatory operation, targeting Afghan Taliban positions in the Kharchar Fort area with heavy weapons, including artillery and mortars.
The sources said several militants were killed during the exchange of fire, while multiple Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions were targeted.
The intense retaliatory fire forced Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon several positions and withdraw from the area.
Security sources said Pakistani forces remain on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation along the border. They added that the security forces are fully prepared to respond to any further cross-border firing, hostile activity or attempted infiltration.
The latest development comes amid continued security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where Pakistani authorities have repeatedly emphasized the need to prevent unauthorized cross-border movement and attacks against Pakistani territory.
