Pakistan’s national cricket team appears to have discovered an exciting new fast-bowling all-rounder after 21-year-old Razaullah produced a remarkable performance on his Test debut against England at Edgbaston.
Making his international Test debut in the third match of the series, Razaullah immediately made an impact with both ball and bat. After claiming four important wickets in England’s first innings, the young cricketer returned with an aggressive 81-run knock in Pakistan’s second innings to help his side establish a significant lead.
Razaullah bowled 23 overs during England’s first innings, conceding 148 runs while taking four wickets. His victims included Emilio Gay, Joe Root, Jamie Smith and Ollie Robinson.
His dismissal of England captain Joe Root was particularly significant as it gave Razaullah his maiden Test wicket on the opening day of his international career.
The young pacer’s ability to combine pace, movement and attacking intent quickly made him one of the major talking points of the match.
Razaullah then demonstrated that his abilities extend well beyond bowling. Batting in Pakistan’s second innings, he smashed 81 runs from just 63 deliveries.
Pakistan eventually reached 449 in its second innings and secured a 129-run overall lead after overcoming England’s first-innings advantage.
Who Is Razaullah?
Born on April 5, 2005, in Upper Dir, Razaullah is a right-handed batter and right-arm fast bowler. Despite having limited first-class experience before receiving his Test call-up, he had already attracted attention through his performances in domestic cricket.
He represented teams including Mardan Under-19, Abbottabad Region Under-19, Abbottabad Region and Peshawar Region, while also featuring for several domestic organisations.
In first-class cricket, he had taken 34 wickets and scored 344 runs in nine matches, including a century against Islamabad.
Razaullah’s 81-run innings also produced notable milestones. His nine sixes equalled the record for the most sixes in a Test debut innings.
He also completed his half-century from only 43 deliveries, setting a new Pakistan record for the fastest Test fifty and surpassing the previous mark of 50 balls.
