ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court will hear on September 14 a petition seeking to declare Sohail Afridi’s election as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister void.
The petition was filed by PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, who has challenged Afridi’s election as chief minister and also sought the restoration of Ali Amin Gandapur to the post.
Marwat’s petition questions the legality of Afridi’s nomination and election as KP chief minister. He argues that Afridi was nominated for the position by the convicted founder of PTI.
The Federal Constitutional Court has fixed the petition for hearing on September 14.
During the hearing, the court is expected to examine the maintainability of the petition and other legal issues raised by the petitioner regarding Afridi’s election.
Marwat has also requested the court to restore Gandapur as chief minister if Afridi’s election is declared invalid.
The case could determine whether the legal challenge to the change in KP’s chief ministership proceeds further.
