LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to organise mega sports events in all schools across the province from October to December to promote sports and identify young talent.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Punjab School Education Department chaired by Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, where the minister approved the organisation of mega sports events in all schools during the three-month period.
During the meeting, the minister was briefed on the Sports Action Plan. Officials said sports committees had been established in all 35,000 schools across Punjab, while sports equipment had already been provided to 450 schools.
Under the plan, public schools will compete at the tehsil, district, divisional and provincial levels. Furthermore, prize money of Rs500,000, Rs300,000 and Rs100,000 will be awarded to winners at different levels.
The education minister also directed officials to allocate separate prize money for male and female students participating in the competitions.
Moreover, Rana Sikandar Hayat said students who demonstrate exceptional talent would be provided opportunities at the international level. He added that talented students would also receive full support to help them develop their sporting careers.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging greater participation in sports among students while providing a platform to identify and nurture promising young athletes across Punjab.
