LONDON: Pakistan captain Babar Azam is likely to return for the second Test against England at Lord’s, starting Aug. 27.
Babar missed the opening Test after suffering an injury during a practice match. However, the team management is considering several changes to the playing XI, including Babar’s return.
The final lineup will depend on the pitch and playing conditions at Lord’s.
If Babar receives fitness clearance, Pakistan could drop Azan Awais to make room for the captain.
Meanwhile, the team is also considering resting wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan for the second Test.
Pakistan could field two spinners if the pitch looks dry and offers assistance to spin. Fast bowler Ubaid Shah is also among the contenders for a place in the playing XI.
England lead the three-match series 1-0 after beating Pakistan by an innings in the opening Test.
Therefore, Pakistan must win the Lord’s Test to keep the series alive and level the contest.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have moved ahead of Pakistan in the Test rankings following Pakistan’s defeat in the opening match.
