DUKI : A toxic gas leak inside a closed coal mine in the Duki district of Balochistan has claimed the lives of two miners and left four others unconscious, rescue officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to Mines Rescue sources, the bodies of the deceased and the four affected workers were promptly extracted from the mine shaft and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical care. The condition of the unconscious miners is reported as critical, with doctors battling to stabilize them.
Rescue sources revealed that the mine had remained non-operational for an extended period, leading to the accumulation of hazardous gases within the subterranean tunnels. It is believed that these trapped emissions were suddenly released, overpowering the workers who had entered the facility. An official inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact sequence of events, while rescue operations at the site have been concluded. Further updates on the victims’ conditions are awaited from the hospital.
