Govt Approves Deployment of Army in Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the deployment of three Pakistan Army companies, comprising more than 400 personnel, in Rawalpindi for six months under Article 245 of the Constitution.

The decision was taken following a request from the Punjab Home Department.

The army will work alongside the district administration to maintain law and order in the city.

It will also strengthen security at sensitive locations and key roads.

The notification states, “…the Federal Government, in exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is pleased to authorize deployment of 3x companies of Pakistan Army for sensitive security duties in Rawalpindi to avoid any undesirable situation as well as to respond effectively in any unforeseen situation as per requirement of the district administration for a period of six months with immediate effect”.

Moreover, the troops will assist the district administration in dealing with any untoward situation and help maintain public safety.
