ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was declared medically fit after undergoing a detailed examination by a team of specialist doctors at Shifa International Hospital.
According to Tarar, authorities transferred Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to the hospital during the night of August 20-21 in line with a Supreme Court order and under appropriate security arrangements.
In a post on X, the minister said a team comprising specialists, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, examined Imran Khan at the hospital.
He added that Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, also remained at the hospital throughout the medical examination and treatment process.
After completing the examination and other medical procedures, authorities transferred Imran Khan back to Adiala Jail at around 5 a.m. on August 21, Tarar said.
Meanwhile, jail sources said authorities brought the PTI founder back to the prison under tight security and moved him to his cell.
Earlier, authorities had shifted Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital amid heightened security. Before the transfer, the Islamabad inspector general of police visited the hospital along with other police officers to review security arrangements.
Security remained tight outside the hospital, where a heavy contingent of police was deployed. Moreover, Islamabad Police closed some routes leading to and from the hospital to traffic as part of the security measures.
Hospital sources said authorities had formed a six-member team of specialist doctors to conduct Imran Khan’s medical examination. They had also made special arrangements in case doctors decided to admit him for further treatment.

The Supreme Court had earlier ordered authorities to transfer the PTI founder to Shifa International Hospital within two days for a medical examination.
However, the Supreme Court registrar’s office returned a review petition challenging the hospital transfer order on Thursday after raising objections to it.
