Imran Khan’s Medical Examination Conducted at PIMS Amid Security Concerns: Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar on Friday clarified that security situation creared by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers outisde Shifa International Hospital prompted former prime minister Imran Khan transfere to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Imran Khan underwent his medical examination at PIMs where doctors from Shifa Hospital were also present, Federal Information Minister said in his latest tweet.

In a post on X, the minister said authorities took the former prime minister to PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital because of the security situation created by PTI workers along the route to and outside Shifa Hospital.

“The medical examination was conducted at PIMS, where doctors from Shifa Hospital were also present,” Tarar said. During the examination, which found Imran Khan to be in good health, added he.

He added that the decision followed security concerns that emerged on the route to Shifa Hospital and outside the facility.

Tarar further said the authorities had provided medical facilities to Imran Khan in the past and would continue to provide him with medical care whenever required.

“Medical facilities have been provided to him in the past and will continue to be provided whenever he needs them,” the minister said.

In another tweet, Tarar said authorities transferred Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to the hospital during the night of August 20-21 in line with a Supreme Court order and under appropriate security arrangements.

The minister said a team comprising specialists, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician, examined Imran Khan at the hospital.

He added that Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, also remained at the hospital throughout the medical examination and treatment process.

After completing the examination and other medical procedures, authorities transferred Imran Khan back to Adiala Jail at around 5 a.m. on August 21, Tarar said.

Meanwhile, jail sources said authorities brought the PTI founder back to the prison under tight security and moved him to his cell.

Following the examination, Imran Khan was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.
