ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal cabinet on Thursday approved the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 and amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010, the government said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
The government said it prepared the Defence Forces Act 2026 as part of changes introduced under the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The draft seeks to define administrative and legal matters related to the post of Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Defence Forces Headquarters.
The cabinet’s approval clears the way for the government to present the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 before parliament for consideration and approval during its ongoing session.
The cabinet also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010.
The government said the 27th Constitutional Amendment made changes to the law necessary. The amendments will align relevant legal and administrative matters with the new constitutional framework, it said.
The government will also present the amended National Command Authority Act 2010 before parliament for approval.
Both legal drafts will now go through the parliamentary process, where lawmakers will debate and vote on the proposed changes.
