UAE Suspends Trade and Financial Transactions with Iran

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates has suspended all trade activities, business exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, the UAE Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry said the decision came amid rising tensions in the region.

It warned that the current situation poses a threat to regional and global peace and security.

Iran, meanwhile, rejected the UAE’s allegation that missiles had been launched from Iranian territory toward the Gulf state.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei dismissed the UAE’s statement and said the allegations against Iran were baseless.

The latest tensions come as the region is already facing a highly volatile military and security situation.

The suspension of trade and financial activities is expected to further strain economic ties between Iran and the UAE.

UAE-Iran trade relations

The UAE and Iran have longstanding trade ties, with Dubai serving as a key commercial and re-export hub for Iranian businesses. Iranian customs data show that the UAE exported about $21.9 billion in non-oil goods to Iran in the year ending March 20, 2025, while Iran exported around $7.2 billion in non-oil goods to the UAE. The two countries also have a large business and expatriate community, particularly in Dubai.
