KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Wednesday made a series of hard-hitting political remarks, asserting that the political careers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal are effectively finished. Speaking to the media, Memon also addressed the ongoing debate over new provinces, the health of the PTI founder, and the political future of federal ministers.
In a statement that is likely to escalate tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its coalition partners, Memon declared that if Siddiqui and Kamal are unable to have their demands met, they should resign from their positions in the federal cabinet. He accused the two leaders of using deliberately provocative language in their recent statements, which he said serves no constructive purpose for the public.
On the subject of the PTI founder, the Sindh information minister offered a conciliatory note, saying that he prays for the incarcerated leader’s health and well-being. Memon emphasized that every citizen, regardless of their political affiliation, has an equal right to access proper medical facilities, underscoring that health should not be politicized.
Turning to the constitutional and political debate surrounding the creation of new administrative units in the country, Memon took a firm stance on behalf of the Sindh government and the PPP. He stated that the people do not need to listen to any individual or faction on this matter, as the Constitution of Pakistan clearly lays out a detailed procedure for the establishment of new provinces. He stressed that no one is above the supreme law of the land.
The provincial minister reiterated that the Sindh government and the PPP remain steadfast and united on their position regarding provincial boundaries. He clarified that any final decision on the creation of new provinces rests solely with the Parliament and, ultimately, the will of the people, rejecting any unilateral or extra-constitutional moves on the issue.
