ISLAMABAD: During the fiscal year 2025–26, petroleum levy collections reached an all-time high of Rs. 1,567.45 billion, surpassing both the government target and IMF projections.
Collections exceeded the government target by approximately Rs. 100 billion (against a target of Rs. 1,468 billion) and topped the IMF projection of Rs. 1,546 billion by Rs. 21 billion.
This marks a substantial year-on-year increase of Rs. 347.24 billion compared to FY 2024–25, when collections stood at Rs. 1,220.21 billion.
For broader context, collections were Rs. 1,019 billion in FY 2023–24 and Rs. 580 billion in FY 2022–23.
In addition to the main levy, an extra Rs. 50.16 billion was collected under the climate support levy.
Currently, the government collects a petroleum levy of Rs. 80 per liter on petrol and Rs. 77.28 per liter on high-speed diesel, along with a separate climate support levy of Rs. 5 per liter on both petroleum products.
