DARWIN: Steve Smith equaled the world record for the most catches in Test cricket, reaching a total of 218 catches by taking three catches on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin.
Smith achieved this milestone in his 124th Test match, whereas England’s Joe Root took 166 Test matches to claim 218 catches.
India’s former captain Rahul Dravid ranks third with 210 catches, followed by Sri Lanka’s former captain Mahela Jayawardene with 205 catches in 149 matches, and South Africa’s former all-rounder Jacques Kallis in fifth place with 200 catches in 166 matches.
A race continues between Smith and Joe Root to hold the record for the most catches in Test cricket.
The first match of the two-Test series between Australia and Bangladesh is ongoing in Darwin, while England is set to begin a three-Test series against Pakistan on August 19.
