QUETTA: In a significant move to uplift the socio-economic landscape of Balochistan, a pivotal meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Balochistan, Shakeel Qadir Khan. The session, which brought together representatives from the microfinance organization Akhuwat and key provincial officials, focused on the meticulous implementation and expansion of interest-free loan programs aimed at benefiting the general public.
The provincial government has demonstrated its commitment to this cause by earmarking a substantial Rs 6 billion for a multi-pronged strategy designed to create employment opportunities, promote renewable energy, and provide affordable housing solutions. The meeting delved into the details of these initiatives, underscoring the government’s resolve to foster economic stability at the grassroots level.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that interest-free loans would be expedited through Akhuwat, targeting low-income households, enterprising youth, and small-scale businesses. The objective is to catalyze new employment sources and fortify the local economy by making financial resources readily accessible to those who need them most.
A key agenda item was the provision of solar panels across various districts of the province. Officials highlighted that these solar energy solutions would be instrumental in providing sustainable and reliable power to rural and energy-deprived areas, thereby addressing long-standing electricity shortages and reducing dependency on conventional power grids.
Furthermore, the meeting explored the feasibility of extending loans for low-cost housing projects. The discussions aimed at designing a framework that would enable citizens to construct or purchase affordable homes, thereby improving living standards and promoting urban development in a structured manner.
Addressing the participants, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan urged all concerned departments, including Industry and Finance, alongside Akhuwat representatives, to ensure the timely and transparent delivery of these facilities to the public. He stressed the importance of accountability and efficiency in executing these welfare programs to maximize their impact.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries Khalid Sarpara, Secretary Finance Jahangir Ka Kurd, and other senior officials, all of whom reaffirmed their dedication to the successful rollout of these transformative projects for the people of Balochistan.
