LAKKI MARWAT: The one police official was martyred and another sustained injuries after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a police rider squad near Saeed Khel cemetery in Lakki Marwat, police said.
The attack took place when the police personnel were carrying out their duties in the area. The incident has been described as a suspected terrorist attack.
The martyred policeman was identified as Sajid, while the injured official was identified as Muhammad Waqas. In this regard, both personnel were shifted to City Hospital Lakki Marwat following the attack.
The condition of the injured official was not immediately known.
However, a heavy contingent of police personnel, along with volunteers of the committee, was dispatched to the area to pursue the attackers. The security forces and law-enforcement personnel have also launched efforts to trace those responsible for the attack.
The police officials said that a search operation was underway in the surrounding areas as authorities intensified security measures following the attack.
The incident comes amid continued security concerns in Lakki Marwat, where attacks targeting police personnel have reportedly increased in recent months.
The police constable was killed after armed militants allegedly entered his house and opened fire in front of his family members. The incident occurred in Nasr Khel village of Sarai Naurang.
The slain constable, identified as Dastagir, was targeted at his residence. After killing him, the attackers also set his house on fire before fleeing the scene.
The latest attack has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in Lakki Marwat and the continued targeting of police personnel in the district.
