ISLAMABAD: Indian media has acknowledged the potential strategic benefits of the growing defence cooperation between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, saying the emerging partnership could further strengthen Pakistan’s defence capabilities and influence the regional balance of power.
The trilateral defence cooperation could enhance Pakistan’s military preparedness through greater defence integration, joint military exercises, intelligence sharing and the transfer of advanced defence technologies.
In this regard, a report by Indian Media said the agreement could provide Pakistan with improved access to Türkiye’s advanced drone technology, while Saudi Arabia’s financial capacity and Türkiye’s defence expertise could contribute significantly to Pakistan’s strategic interests.
The report noted that greater cooperation in defence production and technology could further strengthen Pakistan’s operational capabilities and preparedness.
It also suggested that the expanding defence partnership could have wider implications for the security dynamics and strategic balance in the region.
The development follows the signing of the Makkah-based joint defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye on August 7.
The agreement has received a positive response from several Muslim countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which have described it as an important step towards strengthening regional peace, stability and collective security.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Meanwhile, President Erdogan said the agreement, based on the principle of collective defence, would further strengthen security cooperation, defence ties and joint projects in the defence industry.
He stressed that the agreement was not directed against any particular country, but was aimed at promoting peace, stability and cooperation among brotherly nations.
President Erdogan expressed hope that the Makkah defence agreement would become a source of peace, stability and prosperity for the wider region.
The trilateral partnership is being viewed as a significant development in the evolving security landscape of the Muslim world.
Its emphasis on defence cooperation, technology, joint exercises and industrial collaboration could create new opportunities for the three countries to enhance their collective preparedness and respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.
The agreement also reflects the growing focus among Muslim countries on strengthening cooperation in defence and security while promoting regional stability and mutual interests.
